I’m a fan. It’s unique and interesting and it’s a supercar after all.

nay to the wrap

I sort of like the look, but enjoying a wrap is like appreciating a good wallpaper in a home. It’s eventually a hassle, so paint is still better.
Looking at the plate, I’d like to point out this car is roughly the GDP of Bangladesh.

I figure, for those price points, “look you’re a garish dude so you can do anything you want to a nice car”...
![]() 07/29/2020 at 09:15 |

It’s silver underneath. I usually like silver, but in this case I think the wrap was at least something different.
That big 650S is a big no.

The letters/numbers on the rear wing are odd. To read it correctly, you have to be standing on the roof. Or somewhere above it, I suppose.
![]() 07/29/2020 at 09:19 |

That’s a no for me, dawg. Why are you going to spend a fuck load of money on a supercar, but get it in a boring color (sorry Camaro, if you’re somehow able to read this) and then wrap it to make it look less boring in color? If you want exciting, just buy exciting!

All McLaren must now be gulf livery

Meh.

I bet the car looks great under all that crappy wrap.

Negative Ghost Rider, pattern is full.
![]() 07/29/2020 at 09:28 |

Agreed. The spoiler wrap really undermines the rest of the wrap job.

If I saw this at a cars & coffee, I’d put my coffee, and maybe a sticky donut, right on the 650S spoiler/ table.
(I’d never do that but it’d be kinda funny to have the person say “Whoaa WTF dude!?!?!?!?” and then I’d say “Well clearly you don’t care about how the wing looks, I didn’t think it would matter!!!!)
/end of fake C&C episode

This is a correct take. You have fuck you money to buy a super car but then you’re scared to get the color that you really want or customize the fuck out of it? That doesn’t make a lick of sense.
That’s a no for me dawg.

I wouldn’t kick it out of the garage

Sure, why not?
But then I do own these shoes, so maybe I have grey hexagon affinity :

What’s an S059?
![]() 07/29/2020 at 10:05 |

It’s not a terrible wrap. They could have done a lot worse.
![]() 07/29/2020 at 10:20 |

Resale is my guess.
![]() 07/29/2020 at 10:47 |

Less appealing that a well-spec’d unmodified version.
And the vanity of it shows in that the 650S script on the wing is not readable by someone looking at the back of the car... and it would be reversed in the rear view mirror... and people seeing the car on-coming are not likely to be able to actually SEE the wing unless in air-brake mode... and then only behind all the rest of this car’s visual posery.
Why mess with something, when doesn’t really need it...
I’d have upgraded, rather than modified...
![]() 07/29/2020 at 10:47 |

I kept looking at that one picture and asking myself: "what does S059 stand for...."
![]() 07/29/2020 at 10:53 |

I can see wrapping the center of the roof panels between the windscreen and the rear glass , and the area between the rear window and the engine cover window in gloss black or something.
I’d leave the side rails of the roof from the A-pillars , flowing into the buttresses on the roof compartment lid and into the rear fenders as silver.
But the car doesn’t really need much else...
And wholeheartedly agree on the wing model logo not being a good idea.

If you’re spending $300k on a car is resale value really a consideration? I’m asking a serious question. If you’re in a position to spend that kind of money what’s the real difference to your life if you get $100k instead of $200k on the backend?
![]() 07/29/2020 at 11:24 |

Some people don’t care, others do. Generally speaking, the people in the position to afford those cars were smart enough to become rich. Never underestimate how cheap rich people can be.
If I was throwing down money like that, I would care. If I knew I wasn’t keeping it I would want to minimize my losses.
![]() 07/29/2020 at 11:31 |

Yes to all that.
![]() 07/29/2020 at 11:45 |

It’s a ripoff of the McLaren 620R , which is basically a road-legal version of the 570 GT4 racecar. The 620R was only announced in December 2019, so this wrap is only a few months old.
![]() 07/29/2020 at 11:45 |

I always liked the MC4-12C better than the 650S, but I don ’t hate it.
![]() 07/29/2020 at 12:06 |

The wrap is a bit iffy, but that can be removed. The price seems pretty nice to me, though
![]() 07/29/2020 at 12:47 |

The pattern isn’t too bad - obviously a wrap, but the thing on the wing, hard no. This thing reeks of dirty family money or similar, surprised it isn’t flitting around Vancouver or Bellevue without a care in the world.
Would have been better to just spec it in a nice blue and have that be it.
![]() 07/29/2020 at 14:20 |

It’s a bit much and I hate matte finishes
, TBH.
![]() 07/29/2020 at 21:52 |
|
But the thing is. You’d never paint that on a car, it’s too much. A wrap gives you that freedom!
![]() 07/29/2020 at 21:54 |
|
Is true. But they do it for resale. I like to think I’d choose a bright green or orange, but I’m not the one putting my money down.
TBH If you have the money to order one of these new, especially given how McLaren prices tend to fall quickly, you can afford to take a value hit for the sake of getting a sick color. It’s not a Camry
![]() 07/29/2020 at 21:55 |
|
I’m a big sucker for writing the name of the car on the car. Sorry ;)
![]() 07/29/2020 at 21:57 |
|
The car has lost like $300,000 in value. If the rich person who ordered this is cheap, they’re incredibly dumb. By getting silver they’ve saved pennies by comparison!
![]() 07/29/2020 at 21:57 |
|
Interesting! Inspired by factory, that’s cool.
![]() 07/29/2020 at 22:09 |
|
Weirdly enough, many studies have been done that show color has no real effect on resale value
![]() 07/29/2020 at 22:10 |
|
This makes my Camaro sad
![]() 07/29/2020 at 22:53 |
|
Is that right? Maybe it effects more how easy it is to find a buyer. Which in turns affects resale value unless you get lucky.
We know that a lot of boys don’t want a pink car, a lot of Ferrari buyers want red and a lot of boring car buyers don’t want highlighter green. Suuuurely it affects value!
